ABC
HOBBY NORTHWIND 28 - Sailing fans will be excited to learn that
ABC has released the North Wind 28-a more compact version of their
sleek NorthWind 36 R/C yacht. The "28" shares virtually
all of the same features of its larger predecessor, including a durable
one-piece plastic hull and deck, as well as a two-piece mast of aircraft-grade
aluminum.
Like the "36", the "28" uses nothing
more than two standard servos to control sails and rudder. A 31/2"
arm attaches to one servo and handles sail "winch" duties.
The other servo controls the rudder via a bulletproof steel rod and
clevis arrangement that exits the rear of the yacht's "cabin"
and connects directly to the rudder's control arm. Aside from the
obvious cost benefits of not having to buy an expensive "winch"
servo, this servo arrangement makes it a cinch to swap out servos
and adjust controls. In our tests we found that JR's S517 BB Sport
Servos were more than adequate for both "winch" and rudder
duties.
